Under Eye Bags

Under eye bags are a common concern affecting the eye area, resulting in dark circles and puffiness. Read on for more information under eye bags, including what causes them, factors that can contribute to their appearance, and available treatment options available at The Greville Clinic.

Preventing Under Eye Bags

While some causes of under eye bags cannot be changed, such as genetics, there are some steps individuals can take to prevent or minimise their appearance. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise can promote overall skin health, while avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol intake can also benefit the skin and reduce the appearance of eye bags. Finally, practicing good skincare such as gentle cleansing, moisturising and application of sunscreen can keep the skin around the eyes hydrated and supple, preventing premature ageing and sagging skin.

Under eye bags form when the delicate skin beneath the eyes becomes weak and begins to sag, causing the fat pads beneath the eyes to slip down and create a pouch of skin. Under eye bags can also be caused by excess fluid in the body, contributing to a puffy and swollen look under the eyes, particularly in the morning upon waking up.

  • Puffiness or swelling under the eyes
  • Dark eye circles or discolouration
  • Mild sagging under the eyes
  • Under-eye skin that appears to be loose or stretched
  • Tired or fatigued appearance, even when well-rested
  • Increased prominence of the eye sockets or hollows under the eyes
  • Difficulty applying eye makeup smoothly due to uneven skin texture

Wrinkle Softening

Fine lines form as the small muscles around the eye contract, which can make the area read as tired. wrinkle softening eases that movement with a measured, conservative approach aimed at a rested look rather than a frozen one.

Add Volume, Definition & Structure

Volume loss in the tear trough casts a shadow that is often mistaken for a bag. restoring volume in the upper cheek supports the under-eye from below and softens that hollow, bringing the midface back into balance.

HIFU Lifting & Tightening

HIFU lifting and tightening tightens the deeper support layers around the eye and upper cheek, lifting skin that has begun to descend and easing the puffiness laxity creates.

Lumixa Skin Rejuvenation

Where the concern is the surface of the skin rather than lost volume, facial skin rejuvenation improves tone and texture across the delicate under-eye area, lifting dullness and crepiness.

Non-Surgical Eye Lift

A non-surgical eye lift firms loose skin on the upper and lower lids without incisions, opening the eye area and easing the heaviness that makes eyes look tired.

Skin Needling Facials

skin needling creates controlled micro-channels that trigger collagen production, thickening and firming thin under-eye skin across a course of treatments.

There are various factors that can contribute to the appearance of under eye bags, including:

  • Ageing – As the natural ageing process reduces levels of collagen in the skin, sagging can affect the under eye area and lead to the formation of eye bags.
  • Lack of sleep – Not getting enough sleep can lead to the accumulation of fluid under the eyes, causing dark circles and puffiness.
  • Genetics – For some individuals, eye bags can be inherited, appearing from an early age.

Other factors that can contribute to under eye bags include stress, untreated allergies, smoking, chronic medical conditions and eye fatigue.

At The Greville Clinic, we may recommend one or more of the following treatments to help reduce the appearance of under eye bags:

  • HIFU High Intensity Focused Ultrasound
  • Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
  • Lumixa and LED Light Treatment
  • Hyaluron Collagen Drink
