Cellulite is a common condition that affects the appearance of the skin, making it look dimpled. Often appearing on the thighs, buttocks and hips, cellulite can range in severity from a few small dimples through to large amounts of dimpling and sagging skin. Below, The Greville Clinic takes a closer look at cellulite, detailing who it affects, its causes, and available treatment options.

How Does Skin Needling for Cellulite Work?

Skin needling for cellulite works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production. The procedure involves a handheld device with tiny needles that penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering the body’s natural healing response. As the skin repairs itself, collagen fibres remodel, resulting in a smoother texture and improved elasticity. In the case of cellulite, these micro-injuries help break down the fibrous bands responsible for cellulite’s dimpled appearance and encourage the growth of new, healthier tissue.

The signs and symptoms of cellulite include:

  • Dimpled or lumpy skin
  • An uneven texture that resembles the appearance of orange peel or cottage cheese
  • Skin that feels colder to the touch or has a different texture compared to surrounding areas

There are various skin and body treatments that can target cellulite on the body. At The Greville Clinic, we may recommend one or more of the following options:

  • Venus Viva RF Skin Needling
  • Fat Cavitation
  • Radiofrequency Skin Tightening
  • Medical Grade Skin Care

Cellulite is most commonly experienced by women, although it can also affect men. It can occur at any age, but it’s often associated with hormonal changes such as those that occur during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. Cellulite can also be hereditary, meaning you might be more likely to experience it if there’s a history of it in your family.

It’s important to note that cellulite is not a sign of poor health or a lack of fitness. It can occur in people of any weight, including thin people, and is not always related to physical exercise.

Cellulite is caused by fat deposits that push against the connective tissue beneath the skin, causing the skin to have a dimpled or puckered appearance.

Common causes of cellulite can include:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Genetics
  • Age
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Gender
  • Tight clothing
