Fat Freezing for Cellulite

Cellulite is a common skin concern that can develop, causing a dimpled or bumpy appearance due to fat build-up underneath the skin. Cellulite doesn’t cause any physical issues, but its lumpy and irregular appearance can have an impact on a person’s confidence, making cellulite treatment a popular option. At The Greville clinic, we offer fat freezing for cellulite to help reduce the appearance of this common concern.

Fat freezing for cellulite is a non-invasive treatment option that involves the use of medical-grade freezing technology to sculpt the body. It works by cooling fat cells to minus 10 degrees Celsius in order to induce cell death (apoptosis). This helps to reduce stubborn fat and cellulite, which can be difficult to lose through diet and exercise alone.

Fat freezing, also known as cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive body contouring procedure designed to reduce localized fat deposits. The technique involves the application of controlled cooling to specific areas of the body, targeting fat cells without affecting the surrounding tissues. During a typical session, applicators are placed on the skin over the area to be treated, and the device cools the underlying fat cells to a temperature that triggers apoptosis, or controlled cell death. Over the following weeks, the body naturally metabolizes and eliminates these dead fat cells, resulting in a gradual reduction of fat in the treated area. Fat freezing is commonly used on areas such as the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, and under the chin. Patients can often resume their normal activities immediately after treatment.

Who is a Suitable Candidate?

While fat freezing can effectively target and reduce fat deposits, improving the appearance of cellulite, it’s important to first determine candidacy and discuss any potential risks associated with the treatment. A suitable candidate for fat freezing for cellulite typically includes individuals with localised pockets of stubborn fat and mild to moderate cellulite, particularly in areas such as the thighs, buttocks or abdomen. These individuals should be in overall good health with realistic expectations about the results of the procedure.

Fat freezing for cellulite can provide the following potential benefits:

  • Reduces the volume of fat cells in the treated area, helping to minimise the appearance of cellulite
  • Stimulates collagen production for improved skin elasticity and texture
  • Allows for specific problem areas to be targeted
  • Requires little to no downtime, with minimal discomfort and no incisions
  • Side effects are generally mild and temporary, such as redness or bruising at the treatment site

Fat freezing can be safely used on various areas affected by cellulite, including:

  • Abdomen
  • Thighs
  • Flanks (love handles)
  • Buttocks
  • Upper arms

Treatment begins with an in-depth consultation one of our clinicians, allowing us to understand your concerns and tailor a treatment plan for your skin. How many sessions are required for fat freezing for cellulite can range between 1 to 3 sessions per area treated.

The treatment itself can take between 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area being treated and the fat density. Fat cells are cooled to minus 10 degrees Celsius, inducing cell death (apoptosis). You may feel minor pinching and a cooling sensation as the treatment is being performed, but this shouldn’t be uncomfortable. After the first 5 minutes, the skin will become numb and you can sit back and relax.

Cellulite has numerous causes, ranging from genetics and age through to hormones, skin structure and weight. However, it’s a common misconception that cellulite is primarily associated with excess weight. While weight can contribute to the risk of cellulite, excess fat deposits do not lead to the appearance of cellulite. This means cellulite can be found under the skin surface of people of all weights.

To understand why cellulite appears, it’s important to learn how the body stores fat. Fat cells underneath the skin are responsible for storing energy. These cells fit within compartments that connect the skin to the muscles. When the fat cells are small, they fit inside these compartments easily, but when the fat cells become too large, subcutaneous fat under the skin begins to bulge, causing cellulite.

Results of fat freezing for cellulite can be seen as soon as 2 weeks after your treatment session. You’ll be able to continue seeing improvements in the appearance of your cellulite for up to 12 weeks.
